GOLDEN GOGGLES 2006
Join the London Pools Campaign in celebrating the opportunities to swim outdoors by exploring London’s lidos, ‘city beaches’ and park ponds over the next few months. Help us to find London’s best outdoor swimming place and we can publicise how many lidos are no longer with us – and how many COULD be re-opened – and what a difference they would make to the quality of life in the city.
How do I take part?
Use this brochure to guide you round some of the different outdoor swimming places London still has – or revisit old favourites – and then let us know how you found the experience by returning the enclosed questionnaire or by filling in a form on our website www.londonpoolscampaign.com/goldengoggles06. We’ll add up all the results and in July present the 2006 Golden Goggles award to the “best” lido or outdoor pool.
What is the Golden Goggles award?
Last year 90 swimmers took part in the Golden Goggles Award and their reviews of swimming pools became the first ever audit of public swimming pools in London done by swimmers for swimmers.
Duncan Goodhew presented the awards at a ceremony in the derelict but beautiful Marshall Street Baths in May 2005 and the event was featured live on BBC news and throughout the press. The media coverage drew attention to the closed and threatened pools in London and the poor repair of many that are open.link to previous gg page and results
